What You Must Know About The Wine From Emilia Romagna "Lambrusco di Sorbara"

Lambrusco is a group of prehistoric grape varieties inherited in Italy. It is uncertain precisely when these varieties evinced, but Cato may well have mentioned them in ‘De Agri Cultura’ in 160 BC – humankind's oldest printed farming handbook.

The best Lambruscos, nowadays are dry and barely sweet and are almost always made in a semi-sparkling, frizzante, style. The wines may as well go through second fermentation either in the bottle or in pressurized tanks. There are around 10 different varieties out of which, 8 are closely related. And then there are 4 high-quality varieties: Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Grasparossa, and Lambrusco Salamino

Most of the Lambrusco production happens in Emilia-Romagna, a region in Italy that houses countless famous delicacies.

Serve a Lambrusco along with your subsequent charcuterie and cheese spread for an amazing match for locals. For true authenticity, make sure you include Prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano-Reggiano and you can never go wrong.

Lambrusco di Sorbara is a red wine title that was awarded its DOC classification in the year 1970. It is situated in the north of Modena near the village of Sorbara in northern Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. The Sorbara is considered as the highest-quality wine of the Lambrusco family, majorly due to its extra concentrated flavour.

This grape delivers the softest and extremely subtle and floral of the Lambrusco wines, often in a light, pink-rose hue. The finest versions are in a dry and invigorating fashion but have charmingly sweet aromas of orange blossom, cherries, mandarin orange, watermelon and violets. You can find these wines labelled primarily as Lambrusco di Sorbara and they go extremely well with spicy Thai and Indian cuisine.

Sorbara is of the lightest hue of pink among the Lambrusco wines that offers a transient sparkle and unique bouquet redolent of violets. Sorbara is also the most acidic among the Lambrusco wines, making it extremely good with fatty or grilled foods, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and Lasagna

The most unique feature of Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes is its flowering variance. In some years, the vine drops its flowers, reducing harvests more than 30 per cent. This causes the grapes to have more concentrated flavours, so what it lacks in quantity is easily compensated by the quality. Its vines are generally placed with those of Lambrusco Salamino which aids fertilization on sandy alluvial soils.

Sorbara is viewed as the best of the various specified Lambrusco kinds. It produces wines which are highly fragrant and floral and the lightest in the colour of all the Lambrusco wines. For the wine lovers who love fruity wines, Lambrusco did Sorbara is the perfect companion to a festive evening.
