Pasta cannot be eaten without a sauce (sugo in Italian), and if there are plenty of different types of pasta, there are even more types of sauces. In fact, each Italian household has their own variations and secret ingredients. It is thus not easy to define Italian sauces, yet they can be broadly classified in tomato-based sauces, vegetables-based sauces and other kinds of sauces.
