Responsible Sourcing

Fashion is a recognized symbol of Italian lifestyle worldwide. Creativity, design, quality of production are traditional competitive keys for Italian brands and industries in garments, apparels and leather.

Textile (fabric, garments and apparels) and leather are industries are characterized bylong supply chains and this factor adds to the complexity of solving ethical issues.

In the current globalised scenario where the responsibilities of companies and governments are somewhat blurry CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility, has become increasingly important.

Italian Companies outsourcing in Asia and buying semi-finished or finished products, need new tools for supporting the effective implementation of their CSR strategies, in order to reduce exposure to events occurring along the supply chain that can results into unexpected loss (delay or cancellation of supplies, brand image reputation, etc.).

Companies located in developing countries (including India) need management supports to cope with the increasing developed counties demand for improving their CSR and Social responsibility practices in different aspects (social compliance, health & safety, environment, fair business).

OECD recently published an important Guideline “OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct (Guidance” which provides a practical support to enterprises on the implementation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises providing them with plain language explanations of its due diligence recommendations and associated provisions). Implementing these recommendations helps enterprises avoid and address adverse impacts related to workers, human rights, environment, bribery, consumers and corporate governance that may be associated with their operations, supply chains and other business relationships.

OECD also published a guideline for “Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector” to help enterprises in implementing their responsible sourcing practices along the garment and footwear supply chain in order to avoid and address the potential negative impacts of their activities. It supports the aims of the OECD Guidelines to ensure that the operations of enterprises in the garment and footwear sector are in harmony with government policies to strengthen the basis of mutual confidence between enterprises and society   in which they operate. This Guidance also supports enterprises to implement the due diligence recommendations contained in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad, being a meeting places for bi-lateral business communities, are the natural platform for promoting awareness and best practices of companies seriously committed to use CSR and Responsible Sourcing as a competitive leverage.
